Autonomous Strategy is a workshop for thinking with technology
Perhaps you also felt the change. At some point earlier this year, the world of information fundamentally shifted, and the rate of change only seems to be accelerating.Â
Everyday our feeds announce that creatives, strategists, and many other job functions are going to be replaced en masse or face reduced earning power because of the latest advancements in AI. At the same time, increasingly sophisticated slop machines are fighting for our attention, threatening to further devalue the very thing we both make and specialize in navigating: culture.
To put it another way: the old world is gone, things are crazy, and nobody is coming to save us.
But in the midst of all this, we realized something odd…
What if the good news and the bad news are the same?
What if the aperture for change and possibility wasn’t closing, but was actually opening?

…alum of previous rounds of Autonomous Strategy, ready for an update
We believe it's actually the best possible time to get down to the core of what strategy is and can be under volatile conditions. To examine how best to maintain – and increase – personal agency. To review how to stay confident in navigating an uncertain, constantly shifting environment. To think through how to get access to the right tools, and the right approach for using them.
More and more, this moment reminds us of why we started Nemesis in the first place: how the independent creative side of your practice can feed strategic work and vice versa.Â
We invite you to join us in thinking through how we want to produce, assemble, and consume knowledge at the cusp of a new era.

"A fearless look over the shoulder of two sui generis strategists. A rare combination of practical, thought-provoking, and fun. Not just the tools and approaches to meet this weird moment, but also the mindsets and strategies to avoid confusion and delusion, which will last long after the tech evolves. Above all, a reminder that strategy is a creative act, one to protect from urgency and nourish with fun."
— Jacques Swartz

"This was super refreshing and made me like what I do again."
— Chris Callahan

"It's been restorative. Strategy Imposter Syndrome has been wearing me down lately, and this workshop has allowed me to take a step back and see what I do (and how I do it) in a new way, while also giving me new tools and new ways to think about strategy and intuition."
— Anonymous StrategistÂ
About Nemesis

We are Martti Kalliala and Emily Segal, the founders of Nemesis, which the New Yorker called an “’alternative’ consultancy” (scare quotes noted). We’ve worked with many iconic brands doing strategy, trend forecasting, and design consulting. We’ve also initiated many independent projects, separately and together – K-HOLE, Deluge, KNOTS, Amnesia Scanner, and SCAMMER. We’ve also taught and lectured at the Rietveld Academie, Columbia Architecture School, the Yale School of Art, the Yale School of Management, Harvard GSD, Design Academy Eindhoven and others. We started the Autonomous Strategy workshops in March 2025 and have since taught 1300+ students from over 20 countries about autonomous technologies, strategy methods, writing, and creative work.

"You’ve created a wonderful environment for people to nourish their playful, imaginative, and weird energy. I’ve raved about this workshop to other strategists. Take the opportunity to invest in your creative voice! You’ll thank yourself."
— Spencer MacEachern

"Insightful, inspiring, innovative, informal and relatable."
— Tom Peel

"This workshop has been everything I had hoped for and much more. It's been educational, inspiring, and also somewhat alarming in the sense that we are blazing into a new generation of technology and language that we may not be applying enough attention to. The unique approach to utilizing these new tools has really helped open my eyes."
— Todd Moffett

"Zero BS, full-on heart. [...] Yes to intuition and inquiry, unusual connections, and uncommon sense! Absent dry industry jargon; rather genuine, clear, concise, and perfectly curious, thank you very much. A joy through and through."
— Tanja Horvat - Korent

"Eye-opening and enlightening!"
— Sarah Chekfa

"Getting a peek behind the big brains at Nemesis was refreshing and invaluable – their sense of taste, strong opinions, practical tools and open-minded nature made the course feel at once constructive and freeing, considered and zany, intellectual and off-beat. It's the first course I've done where I actually feel like it's for the smart, culturally tapped in, thoughtful folk."
